This is fully integrated professional course of study for the persons willing to prepare themselves for variety of careers in the fisheries sector. Cadets from this department learn how to maximize the proper and sustainable utilization of marine living resources. Cadets get sufficient practical training at sea going fishing vessels and in various processing industries and aquaculture industries to develop their professional skills.

Mode of Study
Theory
Regular theory classes are taken by the skilled, learned and well-experienced faculties of the academy. Besides visiting lecturers of different Institutes like universities, Department of Fisheries etc. and also Master Mariners are appointed to teach the Cadets. The classes are fully decorated with modern teaching aids like Multimedia, with the Internet to facilitate teaching methods.
Practical
The curriculum is framed with special emphasis on practical aspects in Marine Fisheries department. Practical training on technical subjects are imparted in the engineering workshop/ electrical/ mechanical/seamanship/ radar/ fish processing /quality control/ physics/ chemistry/ biological laboratories. In addition, regular visits under the supervision of competent instructors are organized to the shore-based establishment and also to the important scrap yard/ dry dock/mills/factories, so that the Cadets acquire a firsthand knowledge of their concern fields.
Onboard Training
The specialty of this 4-years Degree programme is the onboard practical training given to the Cadets during the course of study. The onboard practical training is an opportunity to Cadets to get acquainted with the operation, management and maintenance of the fishing vessel. This is the unique nature of this department.

Eligibility Criteria
For B.Sc. (Hons) in Marine Fisheries course, the candidates must have completed SSC (science) or '0' level and HSC (science) or 'A' level or equivalent examination with GPA 3.5. The candidates must also have Biology with grade point 3.0 and English with minimum 3.0 grade point in HSC examination. The applicant must be unmarried citizen within the age limit of 16 to 21 years.
Mode of Selection
Selection of the Cadets are made through five stages, namely Written test, Swimming test, Medical test, Special Eye sight and Colour Vision test (as applicable for Marine officers) and Viva-voce. For Marine Fisheries discipline selection is conducted by the Academy itself. Applications are invited for the intending candidates through leading newspapers. No traveling or daily allowances will be admissible to the candidates for their journey or halt-ages in connection with the recruitment /admission.
