The Department of Marine Fisheries facilities include five well-equipped laboratories to facilitate teaching, research and innovation at the undergraduate levels. All the Faculty Members of this department are highly qualified and committed to producing competent graduates. The Faculty Members of this Department are also actively involved with national and international collaborative research works. They are also contributing to provide extensive support for local fisheries entrepreneurs, involved with consultation services to the local farmers on commercial fish farming, disease prevention, and culture practices. With all the above strengths and experiences, this department is thriving for excellence towards achieving the mission of Marine Fisheries Academy. Among the multidimensional research activities, the major ongoing research areas include the development of value-added fish products; assessment of biodiversity in the fishing grounds of the Bay of Bengal (BoB); investigation of Jellyfish blooms and their impacts fishermen’s livelihood; analysis of the abundance and distribution of phytoplankton and zooplankton; identification of the causes and sources of marine pollution; comparative microbial assessment of Sea Bass; market chain analysis of captured fish species; evaluation of the seasonal richness and distribution of the Tenualosa genus; assessment of by-catch occurrence in fishing vessels; work pattern and fatigue analysis of fishing vessel crew; and evaluation of water quality parameters and their impacts on marine life in the major fishing grounds. These research initiatives contribute significantly to the advancement of sustainable fisheries management, marine environmental conservation, and the development of the blue economy of Bangladesh.
